An investment in medical research is an investment in the future.
The Mater Foundation works with the community, raising funds to improve the health and quality of life of all Queenslanders of all ages.
Each year, the Foundation supports a number of research projects across the Mater campus. Guests who attended Rendezvous with Romance in 2010, helped fund vital projects such as:
Paediatric medicine and research: lifesaving care for little Queenslanders
The Mater Children’s Hospital Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides intensive, specialist treatment to 750 children each year, including 200 children retrieved from across Queensland and northern New South Wales. Combining the latest medical technology with a team of specialist staff, PICU is at the forefront of medical research into respiratory ventilation, brain injury and spinal issues in children.
Mater Mothers’ Research Centre: caring for mothers and babies
The birth of a child should be an exciting and joyous time, but sometimes problems occur during pregnancy or after birth. These can be life threatening or have long-term effects on a child’s life. Our specialist research team works to find out more about stillbirth, pre-term birth, gestational diabetes, congenital heart disease and many of the other serious complications that a mother and her baby may encounter. Innovative research into the prevention, early detection and management of pregnancy complications will help to fi nd new ways to treat and care for mothers and their babies.
Mater Prostate Cancer Campaign
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men; it claims almost 3,000 lives each year. Today in Australia more than 61,000 men are fighting prostate cancer and another 19,000 will be diagnosed in the coming year. Researchers at the Mater Medical Research Institute are working on an exciting new therapy that uses the body’s own defences to fight and destroy prostate cancer. Their aim is to develop a treatment which will be able to treat future generations of sons and grandson without the harsh side effects of current therapies.
Medical research is the key to the health of future generations. The Mater depends on your support to continue its ground breaking and lifesaving work.
You can be part of this mission.
