Mater Foundation's chicks in pink program helps fund a range of initiatives for patients at Mater Private Breast Cancer Centre, Mater Adult Breast Care Unit and Mater Private Hospital Redland, and breast cancer research at Mater Medical Research Institute (MMRI).
Each year in Australia more than 13 000 women discover they have breast cancer.
While early detection and medical advancements have resulted in a higher survival rate for those disgnosed, the road to physical and mental recovery is long.
By supporting chicks in pink you can help women being treated for breast cancer at Mater receive emotional, practical and social support services both during and after treatment, as well as help fund vital research at MMRI.
You can support chicks in pink all year round by purchasing chicks in pink merchandise or a lottery ticket, or attend an event such as the upcoming Queensland X-Ray chicks in pink morning tea.
Some of the services funded through chicks in pink include:
- the provision of two free bras and a soft prosthesis for mastectomy patients
- support groups, such as the Mindful Parenting program and young women support group
- physiotherapy
- a loan program for massage and laser equipment to treat lymphedema
- art therapy classes
- yoga classes for post-treatment stretching.
