Past Mater nurses celebrate their 30 year reunion. In this the centenary year of Mater Adult Hospital, Mater Archives and Heritage Centre together with Mater Nursing and Midwifery Alumni is pleased to announce the introduction of Mater heritage tours. Tours are conducted by appointment only and can be tailored to meet individual needs.

Established by Sr Josephine Crawford in 1987, the centre moved to its present location in Aubigny Place in 1995. Material collected relates to the establishment, development and operation of the Brisbane Mater hospitals and to the working life of the Sisters of Mercy and hospital staff.

“We expect these tours will be of particular interest to both past and present Mater nurses and midwives,” said Alumni Council Chairperson Cheryl Clayton.

Last month alumni member Joan Mutch and twelve Mater past nurses complimented their 30 year reunion with a heritage tour of Mater. The tour included a visit to the original Ward 4 in Mater Public Hospital—now known as the Corbett Room— along with a visit to more recent additions to Mater’s landscape.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it. Revisiting the campus was a highlight of our reunion. A fantastic trip down memory lane,” Joan said.

Alumni members interested in arranging a heritage tour should contact either Kate Barnewall or Jackie North at Mater Foundation on 07 3163 8000 or alumni@mater.org.au.
