From little things, big things grow

Catherine McAuley, the founder of the Sisters of Mercy, was able to realise her dream of caring for the poor and sick in Dublin only after receiving a bequest.

When the Sisters of Mercy arrived in Brisbane they had a vision to build a hospital which would provide compassionate, dignified and quality care to all those who needed it, regardless of their race or religion. Again, their wish was made real by a bequest which enabled them to purchase the land at South Brisbane where Mater Health Services and Mater Medical Research Institute now stand.

It was the Sisters of Mercy’s vision for the future, combined with the generous support of the community which enabled the Mater to grow into the world-class health care facility it is today.

We all want to leave the world a better place. Here’s how you can.

Bequests are an important source of income for the Mater Foundation; our work supporting Mater Health Services and Mater Medical Research Institute is only possible due to the support of people like you remembering us in your Will.

A Will is a lasting reflection of your life and beliefs, and obtaining a Will is simple.

You don’t need to be ‘well-off’ to leave a gift in your Will - every single gift counts in improving the lives of those in need. It is hard to imagine what our most urgent need will be in the coming years but one thing is certain: no matter how our world changes, sick people always need help, and cures need to be found for medical conditions.

What to consider when making a bequest to Mater.
