All white ensembles are no longer a requirement on the bowling green, with many clubs turning pink with pride to help breast cancer patients.
Following on from the success of several Pink Bowls Day events in 2010, pink bowls, t-shirts and hats will soon be dotted across lawn bowling greens throughout Queensland.
Thanks to the hardworking team at Australian Bowls Directory, members of clubs from Coolangatta on the south coast to 1770 in northern Queensland will put their pink bowls forward to support breast cancer services and research at Mater.
Australian Bowls Directory publisher Deborah Wheeler said while it helps to have some bowling experience, the fundraising days were open to everyone.
"These events are open to all members of the public—you don’t have to be a bowler to join the fun. I encourage everyone to throw on something pink, join us on these great social days and have fun while supporting this great cause." Deborah said.
This year Deborah hopes that clubs all around Queensland will join in the action and raise more vital funds for chicks in pink. The first Pink Bowls Day will take place in Jandowae (north-west of Dalby) on 7 May.
