Lexus of Brisbane Group Melbourne Cup Event

Brisbane fashion designer George Wu has put pencil to sketch pad and designed a stellar, one-off gown to be auctioned off for Mater Medical Research Institute (MMRI).

The gun metal grey creation, hand-beaded with Swarovski crystals, was unveiled at the Lexus Group of Brisbane Melbourne Cup event at Cloudland on 2 November by songstress Rhonda Burchmore, who performed while wearing it on the day.

The gown, along with a stunning silver and citrine ‘poppy’ ring and earring set courtesy of Hardy Brothers Jewellers, will now be auctioned off on eBay, with all proceeds supporting prostate cancer research at MMRI.

One man dies of prostate cancer every three hours, making it the most common cancer in Australian men.

“MMRI are working to reduce the impact of this devastating disease and the support we receive from the community is vital for us to continue this life-saving work,” Mater Foundation Executive Director, Nigel Harris, said.
