Over the last decade Lions Clubs of Queensland and Northern New South Wales have formed a strong bond with the Mater through their support of the Queensland Cord Blood Bank at the Mater (QCBB) and prostate cancer research at the Mater.

During this time 5,000 cords have been banked for the QCBB and the Mater Medical Research Institute (MMRI) is leading the search for a more effective treatment, and ultimately a cure, for prostate cancer. Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men and claims eight lives every day. Even if detected early, current treatments are invasive and have serious side effects. The MMRI’s research offers hope of a real alternative.

The Lions Clubs are so dedicated to the cause that at a recent District Q1 convention the clubs once again confirmed their support of prostate cancer research at the Mater for a further three years.

With the commitment from community groups, like Lions Clubs, we can deliver leading treatment and research to residents across Queensland and northern New South Wales. All Lions club who donate over $500 to the Mater will receive a special patch. If your community group would like to support Prostate Cancer Research at the Mater please contact Sandy Pettit at the Mater Foundation on (07) 3163 8000.
