The loss of her brother Errol to mesothelioma (asbestos-related cancer) is one of the reasons Rhonwyn McSweeny decided to leave a bequest to Mater in her Will.

Rhonwyn’s brother, who was a builder with his own business, was only 49 when he died 11 years ago. No one thought that the severe pain in his back was a result of mesothelioma.

“When Errol died I decided to donate regularly to Mater Foundation and since my retirement as a midwife at Mater Mothers’ Hospital I have reviewed my Will to include a bequest to research at Mater,” Rhonwyn said.

“You don’t have to be wealthy to leave a bequest as every amount helps. I am proud to be able to do this on behalf of my brother and others I have known who have battled cancer, many of whom have been cured thanks to advances made through research.”
