Sometimes life doesn’t deliver what we expect it to—and this was Verree Carter’s experience. As a young woman, her major aim in life was to marry and have several children. This did not eventuate, but she did not let it depress or daunt her.
Verree enjoyed a fulfilling career in the insurance industry as well as working part time as a trainer in the Women’s Army Reserve and the Transport Corps. In her spare time she took pleasure in spending time with her extended family, and working as a volunteer for the Starlight Foundation at Mater.
After discussion with her family, Verree has now chosen a way of benefiting children which is highly meaningful for her— a gift in her Will to Mater Foundation, along with gifts to her family members, some of whom were born at Mater.
Verree’s vision is to save the lives of children, and she is directing her gift to the care of our tiniest patients; those who have been born prematurely.
Verree explains her reasoning for making this decision.
“Not having had the opportunity to have my own children I wanted to give others a chance at life and so have included Mater as well as my family in my Will,” Verree says.
“It is wonderful to know that I can help children even though they are not my own, and it will actually save lives.
“I encourage everyone to consider whether they can also help others have a better chance at life through leaving a legacy to Mater.”
