FebFast—give up and give to a good cause
This February join Queensland Reds player Beau Robinson in giving up alcohol for FebFast and helping Mater’s Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Service (ADAWS).
FebFast is your chance to ‘press the pause button’ on a busy lifestyle and create space to plan for a more balanced year ahead. Imagine what 28 alcohol-free days can do for your waistline, your wallet and your liver! FebFast is a national health and charity initiative that supports organisations that work to reduce alcohol and other drug-related harms among young people through research, prevention and service delivery programs.
Beau Robinson is one ambassador who encourages everyone to take up the challenge as a great way to raise funds for adolescents who can receive help for their abuse problems.
"I am looking forward to taking up this challenge, not only as it takes place after the festive season but also because it coincides with the beginning of the Rugby season which will provide extra motivation, especially for such a great cause supported by Mater,” Beau said.
ADAWS is again a chosen beneficiary in Queensland for funds raised through participation and sponsorship. The ADAWS program offers young people (13 to 19 years) an 11-day residential program to assist them to stop or withdraw from their substance use. ADAWS also offers an outreach program and post detox arts and recreational program. The ADAWS Day program ‘Area 40’ includes arts and music program ‘Artspace’ and a vocational training program ‘PiVoT’ for young people up to 24 years.
ADAWS participants have found the program beneficial to their future health and wellbeing:
"ADAWS has been really good for me. It’s helped me realise there is hope to keep pursuing my dreams. Thank you heaps all you staff at ADAWS."
"ADAWS is an excellent place and besides learning a lot and of course detoxing, this place really helped me to find myself again."
“This place has given me a lot of tools and above all hope to live my life without drugs.”
So this February, why not ditch the drink and help support the wonderful work that is done at ADAWS. To find out more or to register online, visit www.febfast.org.au
