chicks in pink morning tea a sweet treat for supporters
Sweet treats will be the order of the day when the annual Queensland X-Ray chicks in pink Morning Tea is held at Victoria Park Golf Club on Friday 21 October.
Held as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the morning tea is an opportunity for women (and a few brave men) to show their support for patients affected by breast cancer and raise much needed funds to support breast cancer services and research at Mater.
Every day in Australia more than 38 women discover they have breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cause of death from cancer in Australian women, with more than 2800 women dying each year.
While early detection and medical advancements have resulted in a higher survival rate for those diagnosed, the road to physical and mental recovery is long.
Mater Foundation Fundraising Manager Sandy Pettit said more than 800 women with breast cancer are treated at Mater each year.
“Everyone knows someone affected by breast cancer: their mum, sister, a friend or a work colleague,” she said.
“Through fun events like the Queensland X-Ray chicks in pink Morning Tea, we aim to provide an immediate benefit to patients by funding support groups, such as the Mindful Parenting program, purchase mastectomy bras and wigs for patients, help with parking costs and sometimes supply groceries and cleaners for patients during treatment,” Ms Pettit said.
The Queensland X-Ray chicks in pink morning tea will be hosted by Channel Nine’s Today reporter Alison Ariotti with special guest speaker, paralympian Karni Liddell.
