Phil Hennessy - Chair

Phil is Queensland Chairman of KPMG and practices in the areas of corporate reconstruction and probity audit.

Phil is also responsible for the operations of the Queensland practice of KPMG.

Phil is Chair of the Government Owned Corporation, SunWater and member of the Infrastructure Australia Advisory Council. 

 

Simon Porter - Deputy Chair
BCom

Simon was a partner with Accenture, a global IT company, leading its Queensland practice for many years, focusing primarily on the government market.

He was formerly a Board Member of the Queensland Theatre Company and committee member and Chair of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), the Queensland Information Technology and Telecommunications Awards and the Queensland Information Technology and Telecommunications Forum.

 

Xavier Kelly
LLM

Xavier was admitted as a Solicitor in 1972 and is principal of Xavier Kelly & Co., Intellectual Property Lawyers.

Xavier graduated from the University of Queensland in May 1998 with a Master of Laws and has also lectured to post graduate students at both QUT and UQ. He is currently a member of the Intellectual Property and Information Technology Committee of the Queensland Law Society.

 

Kate Farrar
B.Mus. (Hons), M.Comm., GAICD

Kate Farrar is the Managing Director of QEnergy, a new Queensland electricity company focused on helping small businesses in Queensland with their electricity costs.

Kate has substantial electricity market experience, having been Chief Operating Officer of Ergon Energy's Powerdirect Australia Business. Under her leadership, Powerdirect Australia grew to become one of Australia's top five energy retailers covering a diverse customer base ranging from domestic and small business customers to large mines and airports. In 2007 Kate led the sale of Powerdirect to AGL for $1.2bn, $0.5bn above expectation.

Kate was previously a Director with ABN AMRO Morgans (now RBS Morgans), the national financial advisory firm. In 2006 Kate won Queensland Business Review's finalist in the Hudson Community and Government Award category of the Telstra Business Women's Awards. Kate undertakes philanthropic work for the homeless and the Mater Foundation as well as being the Chair of the Queensland Music Festical.

 

John McCoy
BA, GAICD

John is one of Queensland’s best known sporting commentators and is host of the Radio TAB breakfast program.

He has a degree from the University of Queensland majoring in Sports History and Political Science and is one of the few Australian members of the IOC’s historical arm: The International Society of Olympic Historians.

John has a Graduate Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is currently president of Tattersall’s Club, Brisbane and of Tattersall’s Racing Club.

 

Elizabeth McGrath (Betty)
OAM

Betty has been a long-term supporter of the Mater as a member of the Board, Chairperson of the Mater Trust Special Events Committee and Past President of Mater Adult Hospital Auxiliary.

Betty has been the recipient of many awards for her involvement with Lions, including Lioness of the Year (3 times), Focus on Youth Award, Lioness Club  - Year of the Child Award and Medals in '76 and '86 for Outstanding Service.

She is Past District Lioness Associate Chairman for 201Q3 and was the first woman appointed to Q3 District as a Cabinet member. She is charter member, Past President and founder of the Bardon Lioness Club and was subsequently involved in helping to form many of the other 25 Lioness Clubs in the District.

She was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow in 1988 for dedicated humanitarian services and received an Order of Australia Award (OAM) in 1989 for outstanding service to the community.

In 2004 Mater Foundation established The Betty McGrath Award honouring outstanding fundraising efforts in support of Mater.

 

Clare Nourse
BA, MB, BCh, BAO, DCH, MRCPI, FRACP, MD

Clare is Director of the Paediatric Infection Management Service at the Mater Children’s and Mater Mothers’ Hospitals and is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Paediatrics at the University of Queensland.

She qualified in medicine from Trinity College Dublin and trained at Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin, Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

Clare has worked at Mater Children’s Hospital since 1992. Her particular clinical and research interests are in HIV infection in children, staphylococcal infection and refugee health.

 

Bill Noye
B.Bus, FCA

Bill is a Partner at KPMG in the Middle Market Advisory Division which specialises  providing tax, accounting and business advisory services to medium sized privately and family owned businesses.

He has 25 years experience with KPMG, has a Bachelor of Business degree and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Bill is also Chairman of Family Business Services for KPMG Australia, and is actively involved in Family Business Australia.

 

Joseph O'Brien
B.Bus, GAICD

Jospeh was born in Brisbane at Mater Mothers' Hospitals before his family moved to Townsville in north Queensland. He attended the University of Queensland and graduated from James Cook University with a degree in Business.

For the past 15 years Joseph has been involved in establishing a number of specialist advisory firms in the energy industry and currently works as Director, Strategy and Development at Hill Michael based in Brisbane.

In addition to the Mater Foundation, Joseph is a member of the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation and senior vice chairman of the RNA Future Direction Committee. In addition to his participation with the Major Gift Committee at the Mater, and now appointed to the Board, Joseph and his wife Sarah had their first child at Mater in October 2010.

 

Dr John O'Donnell - CEO Mater Misericordiae Health Services Brisbane Limited
MBBS, Dip RACOG, MHP, FRACMA, AFACHSE, FAIM, FAICD

John is a medical graduate of the University of Adelaide and has been managing public and private hospitals since 1984. John has a Masters Degree in Health Planning (Dux 1985) and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and the Australian Institute of Management.

John's past public hospital appointments include Deputy Medical Director of Royal Adelaide Hospital, and Deputy General Manager of (then) Royal Canberra and Woden Valley Hospitals. John then joined the private sector to commission Australia's first privatised public hospital at Port Macquarie, before completing the commissioning of the St George Private Hospital in Sydney. John was then appointed Chief Operating Officer of the 9 Mayne Nickless hospitals in Metropolitan Sydney, before being appointed as National Director of Clinical Service and Quality for the 62 Mayne Health hospitals.

John was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Mater Hospitals in Brisbane in November 2001; and is also a Director of the Mater Medical Research Institute Ltd, and the Health Round Table Ltd, and Chairs the Sisters of Mercy Staff Superannuation Scheme.

 

John Prins
MBBS PhD FRACP

John Prins is the CEO and Institute Director of the Mater Medical Research Institute (MMRI) and Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Queensland.

He undertook clinical and research training in Brisbane and Cambridge in the United Kingdom and heads an active research program in obesity and diabetes. John sits on numerous Boards and research panels for Government and industry.

 

Rebecca Pullar
LLB, BA
Rebecca graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Law from University of Queensland in 1985. She has practiced as a solicitor with law firms in Brisbane and London with a particular interest in the areas of film, financing and licensing; and property development, structuring and financing.

She has previously held positions on the Board of Queensland Film and Development, the Board of Film Queensland and was on the Committee of Women Advisors to Premier Wayne Goss.

Rebecca is currently a Yalari Board Member and counsel to Citimark Properties Pty Ltd.  

 

Laurence Matthew Rogencamp
B.A., LL. B
Admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1987.

Currently holds the following positions: Company Secretary of Mater Misericordiae Health Services Brisbane Ltd., Mater Hospitals Appeal Ltd., and Bridgeworks Personnel Ltd. Director of Mater Health Services North Queensland Ltd. Corporate Counsel for Mater Health Sevices Brisbane and the Sisters of Mercy Brisbane Congregation.

 

Jason Titman
B.Bus (Dist.), CA, MBA, MAICD, FAIM, J.P. (Qual.)

Jason is the Managing Director of 4SME, a boutique investment and strategic consultancy firm that specialises in businesses moving into the online and digital space. Jason originally started his career with KPMG and from there spent thime in the motor industry and over the past 15 years has also been undertaking a range of property developments and redeveloping some of Brisbane's best known hotels, including Hotel LA, Scarborough hotel, Regatta hotel and Chalk hotel.

Jason is on the board of advisors for a number of SME's, Chairs a number of Body Corporates and was on the Mater Mothers' Capital Campaign Committee for the new Mater Mothers' Hospital. He is heading up the Mater's new Endowment Campaign, with a view of raising $10 million by 2014.

He and wife Tanya have had two of their children in the Original Mater Mothers' Hospital and two of their children in the new Mater Mothers' Hospitals.

 

 

Bill Ryan

Orthopaedic Surgeon


Bill is a University of Queensland Graduate with early training at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane. 

Bill further trained in Neurosurgery and Orthopaedic Surgery in Edinburgh, Scotland, followed by Orthopaedic Surgery Training in Oswestry in England with exposure to Rehabilitation at both locations. 

A Fellowship in Spinal Surgery and Rehabilitation in Rancho Los Amigos in Las Angeles led to a lifelong special interest in both fields.

Currently Bill has consulting rooms at the Brisbane Private Hospital and is also Director of the Wesley Back Rehabilitation/Pain Management Program.
