Prostate cancer in focus
At Mater Foundation, prostate cancer is always in the spotlight.
This year alone, around 21 000 Australian men will be diagnosed* with prostate cancer. Nine men will die every day.
Cases are strongly linked to:
- Advancing age
- Family history
We need to stop prostate cancer from needlessly affecting Aussie blokes and devastating families.
To help the cause, Mater Foundation is casting the net wide.
We have a range of programs in place to keep much-needed funds rolling in and raise community awareness.
Awareness is crucial with prostate cancer because early detection can mean life and death.
We can’t overstate the importance of check-ups.
Professor John Hooper from the Mater Research Prostate Cancer Team said:
“If diagnosed early, most men will have a positive outcome following treatment. But if the disease is in an advanced state or they have a recurrence, the outlook is usually grim.”
