Welcome to 2010.The year is already off to a busy start, especially for some of our fellow Alumni members. One person who is always very busy is Beth Burt.
Beth’s recent initiative to see every baby born at the Mater given a hand knitted bonnet has received an overwhelming response from the community. For those of you who are keen knitters, or who know somebody who is, I encourage you to
read Beth’s story and lend your support.
Another dear friend, and fellow Alumni member, who continues to work tirelessly is Mary Lakey. Mary’s relationship with the Mater began many years ago when she commenced her general nurse training. In this edition you will
read about Mary’s journey and her determination to make a difference.
Mary, with the support of her family and friends, raises much needed funds for ovarian cancer research at the Mater Medical Research Institute. Her enthusiasm and her commitment to this cause are inspirational.
Every day our past and present Mater nurses and midwives touch the lives of so many people in countless ways. Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do. And may 2010 bring you all good health and much happiness.
