Ken Talbot
(29 August 1950 – 19 June 2010)

The 59-year-old Queensland mining executive and philanthropist died tragically along with his executive assistant and the entire board of Sundance Resources when their plane crashed in the jungle in the Republic of Congo in June.

Ken TalbotComing from humble beginnings, Ken was a strong believer in sharing his success and giving back to the community. The Talbot family donates to an extensive range of non-profit and charitable organisations, Mater Foundation being one such beneficiary.

Don Nissen introduced Ken and Amanda Talbot to Mater Foundation during the Mater Mothers’ Hospital Campaign in 2007. Don was appointed chairman of the advisory board for the Talbot Family Foundation when it was created in May 2009.

Ken is quoted as saying that, “the opportunity for giving to worthwhile causes and helping our fellow human beings provides me with tremendous satisfaction. For this purpose, we have established the Talbot Family Foundation.”

The Talbot family support non-profit and charitable organisations in the following areas: arts and education; cultural heritage; health and lifestyle; and social welfare and community sport.

Ken leaves behind his two adult children Liam and Courtney, his wife Amanda and their two children Alexandra and Claudia.
