Volunteers Zofia and Errol celebrated

Today is International Volunteer Day, a time to celebrate the efforts of Mater Foundation’s many dedicated volunteers who greatly contribute to the success of the organisation.

Zofia started as Mater volunteer 22 years ago as a Cuddle Mum in Mater Mothers’ Hospitals and for the past four years she has assisted the team at Mater Foundation with administrative duties.

“I do a lot of different jobs; I’m happy to do whatever I’m asked,” she said.

Errol has dedicated his spare time to Mater Foundation for the last 11 years.  He restocks Mater hospitals with Mater Little Miracle merchandise and he enjoys interacting with Mater staff and patients.

If that wasn’t enough, both Zofia and Errol work at Mater events held on weekends.

“We don’t mind coming here every week as we get more back than what we give,” Zofia said.

Mater Foundation volunteers have assisted at 47 events this year, which has involved 729 volunteer shifts.

Mater Foundation Chief Executive Officer Nigel Harris said volunteers were an integral part of the organisation and its success.

“The charity sector relies heavy on dedicated volunteers and we are grateful that we have so many people who are eager to give their time, whether that’s in our office or at events like RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run,” he said.

“Zofia and Errol have given us so much of their time and we are forever grateful to their commitment to Mater.”
