A night of giving celebrated at Mater Ball

More than 800 Mater supporters came together for the 2017 Mater Ball for a night of great food and entertainment and to celebrate the act of giving.

On Saturday 11 February, Brisbane’s corporate community, patient families and other supporters attended the annual event at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The Mater Ball was aptly themed ‘giving starts here’.

Hosted by long-term Mater supporters Andrew Lofthouse and Melissa Downes from Nine News Brisbane, the evening showcased the exceptional work that’s carried out at Mater across Health Education and Research.

The ball was an opportunity to thank Mater’s supporters who rallied together to raise $140 000 for Mater’s tiniest patients and their families.

Mater Foundation Chief Executive Officer Nigel Harris said this year’s Mater Ball was a great success, thanks to Mater’s loyal supporters who gave generously on the night.

“Funds raised will support Mater’s tiniest patients; helping to give all babies born and cared for at Mater the best possible start to life.

“These funds will allow for the continued investment in critical and life-saving research to help the 10 000 babies delivered each year at Mater, 2000 of whom will need around-the-clock care in Mater’s world-class Neonatal Critical Care Unit.”

The evening was made even more memorable with the launch of the Sister Angela Mary Fund, honouring her remarkable legacy at Mater that spans over 60 years.
