Christmas lights fundraisers making miracles

Kenmore residents Walter and Beverley Woods display (pictured bottom right) have been participating in Christmas lights fundraising since 1998, and this year were thrilled to reach a huge milestone—more than $80,000 raised to help Mater's tiniest patients receive the best possible start to life.

Dr Walter Wood explained that supporting programs at Mater was a cause dear to his heart, with Mater having played a significant role in his early career.

“We chose Mater Little Miracles as our beneficiary, because all those years ago when I was a medical student, I spent two years as an intern at Mater,” Dr Wood said.

“I loved the atmosphere at Mater—it’s a feeling that I’ll never forget. It has really been my alma mater all of these years, and I really wanted to be able to support some of Mater’s current work."

The achievements didn't stop there for our incredible supporters, with Shane and Debbie Horswill taking home the 7 News Brisbane People's Choice Award in the 4KQ Christmas Lights Competition for their spectacular display in Jindalee for the third year in a row. Shane and Debbie have so far raised more than $17,000 for Mater Little Miracles, and this year was their biggest display yet, with over 450,000 lights creating a spectacular Christmas wonderland for visitors. You can see a snippet of their display in the video above.

Congratulations and thank you to all of the wonderful Mater Little Miracles supporters who took part in Christmas lights fundraising in 2018.
