The 2019 RACQ International Women's Day Fun Run took place on Sunday 3 March, with a 13,500-strong sea of pink flooding the streets in support of women with breast cancer.
The RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run is the flagship community event for Mater and supports women with breast cancer through Mater Chicks in Pink. Participants in this year's event raised more than $655,000.
Funds raised go towards providing personalised, practical support services such as counselling, yoga and art therapy and mastectomy bras for women who have lost one or both breasts, and also towards funding life-saving research at Mater to better understand and treat breast cancer in the future.
Mater Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Harris, said the event plays a vital role in both the Mater and broader Brisbane communities.
"The RACQ International Women's Day Fun Run is an incredible event to be a part of," said Nigel.
"The sense of ownership amongst the thousands of participants is clearly evident. It's a cause that's personal to so many, and we're delighted to be able join with the community in this way to provide support to women with breast cancer."
