RACQ International Women's Day Fun Run wins national award

IWDFR18Wins-Feature.jpgMater Foundation's 2018 RACQ International Women's Day Fun Run was recently honoured at the Fundraising Institute of Australia (FIA) National Awards for Excellence as the winner of the Special Events category. This award recognises the programs, campaigns or projects that raise funds through an annual or one off event.

The RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run is the flagship community event for Mater and supports women with breast cancer. In 2018 more than 13,000 participants took part, raising over $700,000.

Funds raised from the event go towards providing personalised, practical support services such as counselling, yoga and art therapy and mastectomy bras for women who have lost one or both breasts, and also towards funding life-saving research at Mater to better understand and treat breast cancer in the future.

Mater Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Harris, said that the recognition cemented the role of the event at Mater and in the broader Brisbane community.

"The RACQ International Women's Day Fun Run is an incredible event to be a part of," said Nigel.

"The sense of ownership amongst the thousands of participants is clearly evident. It's a cause that's personal to so many, and we're delighted to be able join with the community in this way to provide support to women with breast cancer."
