The 2019 RACQ International Women's Day Fun Run took place on Sunday 3 March, with a 13,500-strong sea of pink flooding the streets in support of women with breast cancer.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of RACQ's role as a major sponsor for the event, which over the years has grown to become a flagship community event for both Mater and RACQ.
Mater Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Harris, said the event has also become a staple in the broader Brisbane community.
"The RACQ International Women's Day Fun Run is an incredible event to be a part of," said Nigel.
"The sense of ownership amongst the thousands of participants is clearly evident. It's a cause that's personal to so many, and we're delighted to be able join with the community in this way to provide support to women with breast cancer."
RACQ's partnership in 2019 involved presence across the entire event, including the RACQ Tribute Wall, where participants are invited to hang their "Tribute Card" after their walk or run. See below for a timelapse of participants hanging their Tribute Cards throughout the morning, as well as some photos of RACQ's presence across the event.
The RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run supports women with breast cancer through Mater Chicks in Pink, with participants this year raising more than $655,000.
Funds raised go towards providing personalised, practical support services such as counselling, yoga and art therapy and mastectomy bras for women who have lost one or both breasts, and also towards funding life-saving research at Mater to better understand and treat breast cancer in the future.
