Compassionate care at Mater acknowledged

The team from the Mater Cancer Care Centre in South Brisbane have recently cared for a gentleman named Ben who was battling testicular cancer, as well as living with the challenges of Down Syndrome, Tourette’s Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities.
Sadly, at the same time Ben was receiving cancer treatment, his father also needed treatment in the Cancer Care Centre. This heightened emotions for Ben during an already difficult time.

Recently, Ben’s family reached out to share their heartfelt thanks to the team for providing an amazing level of care and compassion to their son during his cancer journey.

Ben’s family thanked the team for going above and beyond in his care, ensuring he had the same staff to treat him at each appointment, making his environment as soothing and calming as possible by incorporating his favourite toys, songs and games into the day to make treatment less stressful.

They have praised the collaborative efforts from the oncology doctors, nursing staff, occupational therapists, social workers, catering teams and in-home nursing support who worked together to make this all possible.

We’d like to applaud and thank all Mater’s supporters, fundraisers and donors. It’s your kindness and generosity that enables this type of exceptional and compassionate health care at Mater.
