Dr Kelly commenced in the role of Group Chief Executive Officer Mater Misericordiae Ltd in July 2015.

Dr Kelly completed his medical degree at the University of Western Australia, following which he worked at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, a large adult tertiary hospital in Perth.  He went on to complete a Masters of Business Administration and a Masters of Public Health and took on senior management roles including as the Chief Executive of the Women’s and Children’s Health Service and subsequently the South Metropolitan Health  Service in Western Australia.

Before joining Mater, Dr Kelly was Chief Executive of the North Metropolitan Health 
Service in Western Australia and prior to that he spent eight years as the Chief Executive  Officer of St John of God Subiaco Hospital, the flagship and largest hospital of the St John of God Health Care group, a Catholic not-for-profit Australian healthcare provider.
Dr Kelly is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, a Fellow  of the Australasian College of Health Service Management, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders (formerly Australian Institute of Management). He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland (Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences) and an Adjunct Professor of Australian Catholic University. 

Dr Kelly is a Director of the Mater Medical Research Institute Board, the Mater Education Limited Board, the Mater Foundation Board and the Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners Board. His main professional interests are in relation to health system performance and accountability, and the provision of safe, high quality evidence-based patient care.
