Bill Buckby
Board Director
Bill brings extensive financial and governance experience to the Board, in addition to a deep connection to regional communities after living in Townsville for the past 30 years. Bill commenced his career in the audit practice of EY in Brisbane, before setting up and running the Restructuring practices for EY in Cairns and Townsville for 13 years. He went on to practise as a partner in the Asia-Pacific advisory firm KordaMentha and was the Queensland Head of Restructuring before retiring in 2018.
Prior to the merger of Mater across Queensland in 2020, Bill was a Board member of Mater Health Services (North Queensland) which oversaw the governance, strategy, and operations of Mater Private Hospital Townsville. Prior to that time, Bill spent 6 years as member of the Townsville Hospital and Health Services Audit and Risk Committee and was also a board director of Qld Athletics for 7 years. Bill is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants Association of Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ).
Bill also has a strong understanding of the vision of the Sisters of Mercy through his involvement on the Mary Help of Christians Parish Finance Committee for over 20 years, including over 10 years as Chair.
