Mater Foundation announces a five-year partnership with Queensland X-Ray for International Women’s Day Fun Run, Mater Chicks in Pink’s flagship community fundraising event.

Mater Foundation is proud to announce International Women’s Day Fun Run will return on Sunday March 10, 2024 raising awareness and vital funds for women’s cancers.

In 2024, the event will return with a new presenting partner, Queensland X-Ray. With over 50 practices across Queensland, Queensland X-Ray CEO Dr Robert Clarke has stated this five-year partnership with Mater Foundation provides an opportunity to work together to improve health outcomes in the community and further strengthen the close health-focussed alignment and synergy between Queensland X-Ray and Mater.

Mater Foundation Chief Executive Andrew Thomas said the partnership will amplify the important awareness message of International Women’s Day Fun Run across Queensland.

“Fun Run has continued to grow over its 33-year history and since 2021 no matter where you live, you can be part of the Sea of Pink anywhere and make a difference to lives of women with breast cancer. We had over 3,500 virtual participants in 2023, holding their own 5km walks in their local areas.  Mater Foundation looks forward to working with Queensland X-Ray to grow event engagement and awareness of such an important health message across Queensland and beyond.”

Held in the same week as International Women’s Day, this year’s ‘Fun Run’ raised over $2 million for breast cancer treatment and research at Mater. Over 20,000 runners, joggers and walkers were part of Sea of Pink. The Brisbane 5km course commenced in Grey Street, South Brisbane where participants crossed the Story Bridge to finish at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens where they could enjoy exciting activations at the Finishers’ Village.

Registrations for International Women’s Day Fun Run presented by Queensland X-Ray will open early January 2024, and is expected to sell-out once again.
