Sunflower Sphere creates a lasting tribute at Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield

Community generosity has helped create a meaningful new tribute at Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield.

Unveiled at the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the beautiful Sunflower Sphere is a permanent tribute to those whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

Each sunflower on the sphere tells a story. It may honour someone who has faced cancer, someone undergoing treatment or a loved one remembered.

Together, the sunflowers create a lasting symbol of hope, courage and community at Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield.

A community behind every sunflower

The Sunflower Sphere was made possible by Jenny Jenner from Kalbar Sunflower Festival and brought to life with the support of the local community.

Local artists Wendy Badke and Rob Badke designed and handcrafted the sculpture, Hali from Scenic Rim Trophies Boonah engraved each plaque, and local patient and business owner Chris from Snap Fitness Redbank Plains provided sponsorship to help make the project possible.

Kalbar Sunflower Festival has supported Mater for more than five years, with community members volunteering and fundraising funds for Mater Hospital Springfield.

Creating a lasting place to remember

Thanks to everyone who sponsored a sunflower, the sphere now provides a permanent place for patients, families and staff to pause and reflect, while ensuring the stories of people affected by cancer are recognised.

There are still opportunities to add a sunflower and create a lasting tribute to someone special.
