Keirson Dewitt is recognised as a Mater Foundation Community Hero.
We are thrilled to recognise Keirson Dewitt as a Mater Foundation Community Hero!
Since 2017, Keirson has been a passionate advocate and fundraiser for Mater Chicks in Pink. Her dedication has led her to host events like raffles, morning teas, and movie nights during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year, she and a close group of friends organised a casino night, raising an impressive $15,000.
Keirson’s passion for fundraising is personal. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and again in 2017, she experienced the difference Mater Chicks in Pink makes firsthand. Particularly when she was able to access a cold cap that helped her to retain most of her hair during treatment, which was an immense comfort during a difficult time. Reflecting on this experience, she shared, “Losing only 30% of my hair meant so much to me, and I wanted to give back to those who made that possible.”
Despite further cancer recurrences in 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024, Keirson remains committed to supporting others. Her determination is also fuelled by her family’s experience with the disease—both parents battled cancer, and her father passed away in 2017.
Beyond fundraising events, Keirson and her husband, through their business GDE Mulching, match their event donations and sponsor events like the Kalbar Sunflower Festival. Keirson is a regular supporter of the Mater Foundation, attending multiple events each year and she also served as an ambassador or the International Women’s Day Fun Run in 2021.
Mater Foundation Community Hero recognises and celebrates the inspiring contributions of our volunteers, fundraisers and advocates.
Thank you, Keirson, we value your outstanding contribution!
