In February, we acknowledge Lions Australia who have been named a Mater Foundation Community Hero.

Lions Australia, led by Patrick O'Donoghue has shown tremendous commitment to the Lions Prostate Cancer Research and Treatment Project, supporting prostate cancer research at Mater for over 20 years.

Lions Australia has contributed $3.7 million since their involvement with Mater, which has assisted in the purchase of life saving equipment such as an ultrasound system designed for precision targeting, enhancing prostate cancer biopsy accuracy and outcomes for patients. Their generous fundraising has also contributed to research projects, such as Immunotherapy which uses the body’s own immune system to fight and destroy prostate cancer.

This amazing contribution would not have been possible without the generosity, time, hard work and dedication of the 1200 clubs and 25,000 members that give back through their community-based programs and initiatives.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Australia and the second biggest cause of cancer deaths in males.

By supporting the Mater Prostate Cancer Research Centre, Lions Australia have helped us to take significant steps in winning the battle against prostate cancer.

Thank you Lions Australia, we value your contribution.
