Michaela Nabbs recognised as Mater Foundation Community Hero.

In October, we acknowledge Michaela Nabbs, who habeen named as a Mater Foundation Community Hero.

Michaela took part in this year’s Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle for Cancer, raising an incredible $8,823 in support of people living with cancer.

She was inspired to ride by her colleague’s 12-year-old daughter Jade, who was diagnosed with Diffuse Midline Glioma, a rare but aggressive cancer of the brainstem that mainly affects children.

“I dedicated my Brisbane to Gold Coast ride to her to provide my support to Jade, her family, all those families whose children are battling this horrible disease and, all families battling with all types of cancer.

I knew when I took this challenge on that it would push me in a way I have never been pushed before and I was expecting it to be difficult. Thinking about Jade was what kept me going.

I want to be a beacon to spread awareness and support to find a cure for this horrible disease, so less people have to suffer and go through this painful journey. People need all the support they can get.

I feel that spreading awareness [is] so important. It sends a powerful message to the world, inspires others and I believe it makes a huge difference.”

Not only did Michaela’s fundraising make a huge impact on those living with cancer, she won the fundraising incentive prizea trip to New Zealand! Michaela donated the travel vouchers to Jade’s family.

Thank you, Michaela, we value your heartfelt contribution.
