We are delighted to celebrate Lyn Nobbs, who has been acknowledged as a Mater Foundation Community Hero!

Lyn is passionate about raising awareness for breast cancer and encouraging women to check their breasts regularly.

Following her diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) less than 12 months ago, Lyn underwent four rounds of chemotherapy and surgery, a lumpectomy, and the removal of several lymph nodes. Her mum Lorraine is also a breast cancer survivor, diagnosed about 20 years ago.

She took part in the International Women’s Day Fun Run presented by Queensland X-Ray in Brisbane, climbing the leaderboard as one of the top 10 individual fundraisers, raising more than $5,000 to support women with breast cancer.

But she’s not stopping there! In 2025, Lyn is bringing the Sea of Pink to regional Queensland, creating a Fun Run event for the Rockhampton community.

“The number of women I know in Yeppoon with breast cancer is unbelievable, there’s so many,” she said.

“I hope next year we will get a much bigger crowd in Yeppoon to hold our very own event to raise money for breast cancer research, this event is something close to my heart.”

Mater Foundation Community Hero recognises and celebrates the inspiring contributions of our volunteers, fundraisers and advocates.

Thank you, Lyn, we value your outstanding contribution!
