In May, we acknowledge Bruce and Jenny Frazer, who have been named Mater Foundation Community Heroes.

For over eight years Bruce and Jenny have supported Mater Smiling for Smiddy, generously giving their time and sharing their passion for Team Smiddy! They have brought smiles to the faces and filled the bellies of hundreds of people each year through Jenny’s extraordinary cooking talent.

It all began when Bruce made a commitment to ride his bike from Brisbane to Townsville, fundraising for Mater Smiling for Smiddy. Jenny was motivated to bake in support of his efforts, holding morning teas and selling baked goods raising funds for cancer research. Her intimate morning tea fundraisers grew over the years to see the largest community hall on Brisbane’s northside accommodate 180 people to indulge in Jenny’s sweet and savory treats. The annual Eat Cake and Beat Cancer morning tea has become bigger than they could imagine, with many in the community looking forward to the event each year.

Jenny commits an extraordinary number of hours in the kitchen and Bruce rides thousands of kilometres per year, motivated to support cancer research at Mater. When they aren’t baking or riding, Bruce and Jenny also support other fundraisers and volunteer for Mater events.

Thank you, Bruce and Jenny, we value your dedication and contribution.
